Just a little pandaren gal sketchdump. The faces on the bottom were inspired by :iconzaebrael: 's Pandaren faces.
Squishy faces are so fun to draw. :3

The top row are just some quicky sketches of how I had hoped the female model would’ve looked. It’s not exact, but it’s the closest I’ve come to the image in my head. I should work on my cartooning skills more. I’m so used to drawing things with a more realistic flare. =P

I sketched and speedpainted the red panda sub-race with the same body type to show that you can absolutely have a fat and happy red pandaren gal. I think it’s downright ridiculous that people have suggested that the reason they made the females so much smaller than the males is because a thinner look would suit the red panda sub-race.
Uh, no. Successful character design does not have a specific weight. You can have a character who’s conventionally attractive and it can still be a shitty-ass design.
Also, it’s kinda sad viewing pandaren artwork since there’s quite a bit of insecurity and internalized misogyny. :/

Is it wrong and mysogynistic to like this very much AND like the official model? Or would one be typecast as a problem? :(

Cause I like both >.>

Well, no. Simply liking a body type doesn't mean it's misogynist or sexist. What's sexist about the whole pandaren model deal is the fact that they made the males really big and then made the females "acceptable fat" or what some call "hollywood pudgy."
The cultural idea that men can be big and fat and still taken seriously, and women cannot, is the sexist idea.
Even though fat male characters are played for laughs as well, they're not treated as rotten as fat female characters, which is a reflection of the society we live in.

That makes sense. I suppose I am happy with any step away from the female Draenei dimorphism or the female Blood Elf(Even though both genders of BEs are more or less even and lore sound.)

I would have hoped personally that female Draenei would represent the muscular female body type akin to the male's yet still feminine.

As much as Blizzard may be playing it extremely safe and not truly reaching the potential fro gender stereotype breaking, judging from a lot of comments in many game forums the female Pandaren is still considered "fat" by many, so I suppose "those" people did not win over making them a waifish, globe-breasted black and white stick!

I just wish human society didn't need to take so many baby steps to accept something so self evident :(

thanks for the response, and thank you for all the great art!
