So MoP is gonna have some ‘phoenix/bird’ mounts.

I’m sorry Blizz, but that’s not a bird. Your modellers forgot to finish the front legs for some weird-ass reason.

You’re not doing a good job of suspending disbelief.

***

I have not seen any info sheets on realistic bird mounts, so I decided to whip one up, and the ‘phoenix’ model is here to show you what not to do.

If you have some suggestions or info about bird mounts, or other types of fantasy mounts, don’t be afraid to tell me. The more info the better! :D

Please note:
I'm sorry for not replying to stuff and there's a good chance I won't for a while. I'm going through an extremely high stress period of time right now. On top of that, my headache has now lasted for almost 2 weeks.
I've just had too many people yellin' in my ear, and too much talking back and forth, so I'm feeling both "peopled-out" and very lonely.
I'm honestly amazed that my art hasn't suffered too much.
Just know that I appreciate your comments very very much.

My god, I would love to have your version of the bird mount.

The thing I always thought with Warcraft's "bird mounts". How the heck does one not fall off the avian's ass?! How does that saddle even hold onto the butt and not slip off the tail? How and why?!

What makes me sad isn't the lack of creativity with designs here. I -love- what Blizz comes up with sometimes, and can't help but admire. This pheonix was one of them, and I thought it was based off of Ashes, but apparently they used griffon instead. Which ended up with being glitched out of it's ass. They have so much potential, and I'm happy that atleast it's not a recolor but a slightly edited model, but.. it's still not right. There are still flaws in it.

Why do they do this? With so much potential and so much "weapons" in their tools of trade to use, they settle for the least they can do. THIS is what gets to me. It's been the same with pretty much everything - Worgen females, Pandaren females, most mounts, most races.. just why. I get that the content is more important, but I don't see the content on a daily basis.

I see my characters and their mounts the most.

Priority issues :/

As I said to someone else, the least they could do is give each 'type' of mount its own skeleton. They make such a big deal out of 'em, so why not put in high quality work?

Yup, they definitely have priority issues. Many, if not most, people never make it to the end game content, plus it's an RPG, you gotta have lots and lots of customization available. :/

I get where they headed with "remakes/alterations" of existing skeletons, but to be fair it would help them in the long run if they made a new skeleton for bird-type mounts, so when they remake it it doesn't look.. well, retarded.

Don't get me wrong, I really like the design of the phoenix they have, but the legs.. and the whole "saddle over ass" thing is really annoying. Then again, most people are like OKAY END GAME CONTENT HARD CORE RARARARARA PVPMYASSOFF AND GET ALL THE ACHIEVEMENTS so they can gloat their e-peen. /shrug

Quote "most". And most of this crowd tend to enjoy showing off their "elite" status.

I did make it to end game content, but it doesn't mean I don't care about the rewards it gives. Sure, fancy title, woot, awesome. Oh look a mount- oh wait it's... it's terrible.

Design-wise, they have the best ideas. When it comes down to meshing it.. they just get lazy, I guess. I don't know. :/

Yup, they have a great starting point and lots of cool ideas, but when it gets into game it kinda falls flat.

I've also started to feel that even though they've produced an RPG, they would rather focus on PVP and High tier/'hardcore' content, rather than balancing it out and giving equal attention to everything to the best of their abilities... :/

Because while the hardcore side of gaming is very vocal, the casual side isn't as loud. Due to not playing the game as much as the hardcore gamers, we are automatically a minority. Catering the crowd they already have instead of equaling it a bit more so that people who are not as competitive as the hardcore can enjoy it is admittedly a bad marketing move, but they rather stay in the safe zone than take risks.

Which is a damn shame.

Ashes was based off of the gryphon mounts as well. This is messed up, but I guess that the shininess and fantasy qualities of the first version of the model make the anatomy failings less obvious.

As long as people are distracted by the amount of glow, they're good to go. Figures why the paladin sets are like beacons of light. >_>

I didn't know Ashes was based of gryphs, but now I can see it. Ugh. :/
